My list of Poker Manners / Etiquette

I've been reading a lot of forums lately and I'm seeing a lot of talk out there about rude and discourteous players . While I know it can be a touchy subject , I'm going to list my opinion on poker etiquette .

1. Be nice -  It is not the dealer’s fault you missed that straight , and it sure ain't Imafish's fault . Don’t yell , swear or laugh at them , instead spend that time thinking of how you might change your game plan to beat them in the long run . Remember that Poker used to be known as a Gentlemens game , lets try and keep it that way......

2. Know the basics - Beginners don't need to know every aspect of the game such as odds and outs , but at least know hand rankings and basic play before sitting down with others. Not every hand calls for allin preflop ,do some research and read books to further your knowledge of the game , you'll be glad you did ........

3. Get a move on - You might think it's cool to drag out the proceedings by taking forever to announce decisions, or placing bets . No one else likes it though , so keep the game moving along.....

4. Poker is not a team sport - Don’t chat with other players about your hand, their hand, or anyone else’s hand during action ! Never discuss your hand until after the hand is completely over......

5. Be a good sport - No one likes to lose or get sucked out , but to pitch a fit about it continuously is poor sportsmanship . Try to remember other folks feelings before you speak out . Poker is not a kids game , so don't go behaving like one . It's one thing to have a little rant and move on , but to just go on and on about it gets a might tiresome for all involved .

Well , that would have to be my top five , and you'll notice that first and fifth have a lot in common . Never play beyond your bankroll and those two should not be too hard to follow . There's a little saying that I like and it fits rather well here .

"With maturity comes the knowledge that not every thought we have deserves to be voiced ."

I guess if a person won all the time he'd never have to worry about that rant...;-)
