Two years since the UIGEA signed

Today marks the second anniversary of President Bush signing the Port Security Bill that had the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) attached to it . I recall that day almost like it was yesterday, just sitting here at my desk watching Bush sign that bill on CNN that morning in 2006 .

I had tried to warn folk in different forums about the UIGEA bill before that day, and told them to make sure and write their Congress to get this bill off of the Port Security Bill . To my surprise at the time, most folk just thought I was worried about nothing. They claimed that the government could never do such a thing, and some went so far as to make jokes about it.  Hell, I even had some folk from other countries said they would be glad to see the U.S. players banned from playing !

Well that bill sure made it tough there for a while, and quite a few rooms dropped the American player quicker than a bad habit just minutes after the bill was signed. I'll always be thankful to U.S. friendly PDC poker  for sticking by our sides like they did when so damn many of the big rooms wouldn't .

It was bad enough that poker sites done that, but just a few months later online wallets followed suit, Neteller being the big one . Our friends up North in Canada felt the pain as well when Neteller dropped them too . That made it hard to fund most sites for a while till other U.S. Deposit Options opened up.

Anyhow, I just wanted to remind folk that this fight is far from being over and remember that come election day. Make sure you get out and vote come November and encourage your friends and family to do the same. And if you haven't already , make sure to visit the Poker Players Alliance.org and join the fight .
