Letter to President Elect Obama on the UIGEA

Yesterday was another bad day for online gamblers and poker players fighting against the UIGEA . Regardless of all the efforts of the Poker Players Allaince and it's members, and the recent news exposing inappropriate influence by the White House,  the current administration finalized the UIGEA regulations to be made effective on January 19th, only the day before President Elect Obama takes office.

Last night when I read this, it sent me into another outrage against President Bush and his cohorts that have been trying to stop folk from using their own funds to gamble in the privacy of their homes. It further sickens me that big time sports, the NFL being one of the strong ones, have been lobbying to get this done.....I could never buy another piece of NFL official merchandise for as long as I live and don't understand how anyone that believes in our freedoms to play online could.

The Poker Players Alliance has not given up by any means on this fight, and I would encourage everyone to join and let your voice be heard . The PPA sent out another newsletter this morning, and in it there is a way to send President Elect Obama a letter to let him know how you feel . Just click Change.gov to send off one yourself.

Here is a copy of what I have sent. I'm not much of a writer, but feel free to use any part of the letter you want . If I receive a reply back, I'll be sure to let everyone know....

Mr. President-Elect Obama,

First I want to congratulate you and Senator Biden on the election. My family and myself are looking forward to you and your administration getting this great country of ours back on the right track.

One thing I and millions of others like me I'm sure would like you to look into is the UIGEA bill that was tacked onto the Port Security Bill back in Oct. of 2006. During the midnight hours I might add. Our friend Senator Frank, along with the Poker Players Alliance has been trying to help folk like me that like to gamble online occasionally in the privacy of our homes get this law repealed.

Once you are in office I am hoping that you will immediately turn back the UIGEA and other "midnight rules" that have been issued by President Bush, and give the millions that like to play poker online back their freedom to use their hard earned money to play if they so choose. It is a crying shame that folk can buy all the porn they want online, but the current administration is trying to say that online poker is not moral . Yet lotteries, horse racing and bingo are all fine ? Something is wrong here....

Sincerely,

Earl XXXXXXXX.

As you can see I'm not fancy with words, I just try to get my point across and hope the right person will see it. Don't just sit around and think that everyone else will do this folk, that you won't make a difference.....That's the wrong attitude to have when trying to get things done.

In the meantime , you can still find me playing online poker at U.S. friendly poker rooms like Carbon Poker that offer me 30% of my rakeback paid daily.

I completly agree with you Earl. The Bush Whitehouse has shown a total disregard for not only our freedoms, but also most other countrys freedoms of any kind. They want to force all of us to believe they know whats best for all and I for one am looking forward to a new Obama Whitehouse that wants to hear from the people. I think someone once said Government was suppose to be "BY THE PEOPLE AND FOR THE PEOPLE" . Maybe the GOP has forgotten that.
