Bad Beat Jackpot
Today I want to try and explain exactly what a bad beat jackpot is. The reason I'm doing this is I had a family member ask what it was. (obviously they do not play online poker or they would have known) .
A bad beat jackpot is a prize that is paid when a very strong hand is shown down yet loses to an even stronger poker hand held by another player. Every site does not offer bad beat jackpots, and those that do have requirements of how strong a losing hand must be to even qualify for the jackpot.
In most cases the losing hand is required to be four-of-a-kind or better. There might even be additional requirements as well. A fine example would be PDC Poker's requirements :
- The losing hand must be at least a Four of a Kind 7's.
- The winning hand must be at least a Four of a Kind 8's.
- Both the winning and losing hands must include both hole cards.
- At least four players must be dealt in at the start of the hand.
- The hand must have generated jackpot rake.
- Two or more players must be active at the end of the hand, and it must go to showdown.
A small rake is taken out of each pot to fund the jackpot ( that's in addition to the regular rake for operating fees). When a jackpot is won, the prize is split among all players sitting at the online poker table at the time of the bad beat, with the losing hand getting the largest share. Right now that pot is over $983,000 with the loser (the winner) on the end of the bad beat getting 35% of the bad beat jackpot.
I know one person that won a jackpot at PDC and bought a brand new Harley Davidson with his winnings. You could be the next big winner of a huge jackpot by clicking and downloading PDC Poker !
