Earning Respect in Poker
My oldest daughter called me yesterday, as she does most every day, and was telling me about her school classes. She said one of her assignments was to write an article on something that is lacking in today's world, and she is doing it on respect . I personally think she could not have chosen a better topic . I believe all elders are due respect until they prove otherwise. And I feel that most of today's youth have to earn their respect from others. It's part of the growing process if you ask me.
You can say pretty much the same thing about online poker players. Online it can be hard to earn that respect unless you are a long time player in private forum poker tournaments. A newcomer to online poker needs to learn how to earn that respect at the felt , and one way to accomplish that is perhaps showing the table every so often that the big bet you just threw out there was not a bluff by showing your hole cards if they fold. By doing this occasionally it makes it easier to pull that bluff off later in the game when you need to.
One of the U.S. friendly poker rooms that I enjoy for using the show cards feature is PDC Poker. They not only offer you the option of showing both hole cards, but you can show just one if you so choose. Comes in very handy when you don't want to show an opponent that you were holding an extremely weak kicker with that ace you were holding.
Learn to use the features that online poker rooms have to offer. It can help you earn respect at the tables and that can be the difference between being a winning player or one that just breaks even.
